Thats true nuff Sam. SOE EQ tech forum has a stickied post that tells you what version to use. A lot of people report problems with the newer versions with both ATI and NVIDIA and have to install the older version to clear up the problems.
I'm running GeForce video in all my desktops and they are all on the lastest version and I'm having no problems. I was initially on the recommended version but had no problems and wanted some of the newer features like temperature monitoring of the core and statistics stuff so I went to the latest version. Figured if I had a problem it would be easy to just rollback to the other version. Been months now so unless SOE breaks their directx driver I'm clear sailing.

No, not a barbarian, playing a Vulmane.

Today is the last day for Vanguard beta. The game is scheduled to launch in a week. It is obviously a rush job and is being released now for reasons other than that development is finished. Major changes appear with the daily patches and I imagine the game will be in a state of flux for sometime after the release date. Of course all the other MMORPGs such as EQ and WoW are constantly making changes that affect gameplay but the VG changes will probably be a lot more drastic.
The good news is that many improvements have been made in the last few days and performance is somewhat better than it was, though it still needs a good graphics card and a lot of RAM. It is a huge game with lots of cool stuff to see and do. They recently let us all have griffon mounts to play with for a while, similar to the flying mounts in WoW but these can be steered and you can fly anywhere you wish. There are big ships for travel between continents (buggy like the EQ ones but fun) and little boats that the players can control. Players can build their own houses which I've not been able to afford in beta but sounds like fun.
I highly recommend that anyone with a machine that can run it give this game a look see. Don't pay any attention to Menset. He is getting grouchy from being stranded in Boston. My game is supposed to come with buddy keys that I think are good for 10 days, so I should be able to provide access for any of you who want to check out the game without buying it first.

I will give VG a few more weeks before I give it a spin.

I intend to give it a try, if for nothing else, to game with Teniny again. I will wait a few weeks though, to let it settle down.

SamL.....
I have a copy pre-ordered, I intend to give it a try. Beta didn't work so well for me, hope the release is better. The hitching problem got slightly better but it was still too frustrating to play for any length of time.
Waiting a few weeks sounds like an excellent plan...

Thanks Nan, you just complicated my life.

I was hoping I could pass on that one.
Anyone playing VG?

I played a couple days and got an orc dread knight to L9 and stalled. That was a month ago. Knowing that guild size in this game is important to crafters, I hooked up with OTG. Since then, I have discovered that I really don't care for the evolution of their VG chapter. It is full of drama and leetness. Furthermore, a few of the more "active" members really grate on my nerves. It's a bad sign when the guild chat is more annoying than the open chat channels.
Hence, I have not been motivated to log in. I did switch to a station pass, so no point in killing my VG account unless I kill the station pass. I may try it again, but would have to reroll on a new server. Would prefer one with a freindly face or two. Not sure if the lag has improved though. Lagging while crafting is rediculous in any book.
The OTG EVE group is actually quite fun. It may all be related to size. Only about 30 in the EVE group so it is much more personable. I also get along with all of them.
In the end, I am not sure I can sustain 3 MMOs. EQ and EVE are in the "keep" column.

I love this game, don't see why guild size would be so important for crafters. Crafters can buy raw materials on the open market and still make a huge profit. I'm sure that guilds help in many ways, especially in the adventuring realm, but the game can be lots of fun without them.
If you make a character on a new server try Florendyl. Being the designated RP server seems to have attracted fewer of the obnoxious types. Nan and I have characters from level 1 to 17, would enjoy some company. Lag is still annoying and that probably won't change much but I've learned to tolerate it.

Okay, will try Florendyl. I played on Firiona Vie for a couple years before I joined TNFC. It was a fun crowd.
With guild size, there were some design goals which would require player built towns in dangerous areas to enable high end crafting. Not sure if that made it to design "fact".
I presume you two are on the "light" side, which would make playing with a dread knight tough. I'll pick something appropriate and create a dread knight alt. Billy Joel put it very nicely,"The sinners are much more fun."
I'll try to avoid a ranger...

The races we have been playing are more good than evil. We played dark elves in beta and enjoyed that, so would not mind doing that again. If you do play an "evil" race at least it's not too hard to get enough faction so that you aren't KOS.

Killed my station access subscription because I have not logged into VG in over a month. That $15 delta is better spent on beer in my case.
I just hope my EQ account doesn't get trampled in the process. I'll know on monday...

I did the same, you have to cancel it all, then renew when it is expired.

Did you guys see where SOE has completely taken over Vanguard?
