I have downloaded project 199 for my son to try and at login am getting the message about outdated spell files. I got that when I started, can't seem to find or remember the solution...

I don't remember seeing that message. When you try to run the game through EQEmulator it does some patching so maybe that will fix it.

It looks like some people fixed it by installing new Microsoft .NET files.

I found some slightly different files, it worked, thanks.

Actually those ARE the files I used.

And he logged in, made two characters, decided the game was too "dorky".....

Actually, he played it before I did-he got me started...

So he is still interested in trying it, and I cannot get the activation e-mail for the website to work so that I can petition for an IP exception.No response to my e-mails. And this morning when I tried logging into my account, I had no characters. I got the beginning screen with the message that my spell files were outdated.

This is getting to be too time consuming to even be able to get into the game.

Wish I could help, but I have never had these problems. I do know from reading that it takes a long time to get an exception for IP address. People try to cheat to be able to two box the server.

When I tried logging in this morning I had no characters either. Turns out it was the wrong server and I had used the "connect to last server" option. Try going to the login screen where you select the server.

(There was a patch last night.)


My activation email did not contain the complete URL. If yours begins with /forums then you need to put "http://www.project1999.org" in front of it.

I had the same problem, no characters. I use the launcher and had to manually pick the top server to get patched, P99.

I downloaded the files from the patch notes, got characters back. Also got my account authorized and posted a request for an IP exemption.

Good. I know your son got you started with that Barb warrior! but I thought he could not stand the graphics. Hope he gets on.

So far he plays for about half an hour, throws up his hands and says he can't take it anymore....

We'll see.
