Travel question
How does an Iksar safely travel to Antonica, assuming he can't afford a port.
Everything will be alright in the end. And if everything is not alright, then it is not yet the end.
Re: Travel question
Doing it "safely" requires enough experience to fend off or avoid aggressive creatures along the way. Invisibility and SoW can be a big help, so for your necro level 8 is the magic number. There is a boat that goes from the dock at the dark elf outpost in The Overthere to an island in the Timorous Deep, then a shuttle raft from the island to a dock in The Oasis of Marr. There are many hazards.
To get to The Overthere you must run through northwest through Warslik's Woods. If you run the wall you avoid most of the mobs except for a couple of high level goblins who are sometimes along the path. I prefer to run straight, detouring around the giant fort which is pretty easy to see. Watch out for higher level Iksar bandit types and the occasional hulking brute. The trees make it hard to see the mobs.
In The Overthere you also go northwest. To run the wall first go north, pretty easy to avoid mobs on this leg because you can see them. Cactus is not aggressive. Everything else is. When you get to the water I think it's easier to run west along the top of the bank instead of at the water's edge. Not only is it easier to see mobs coming but mob pathing gets weird at the waterline and they may not really be where they seem. It is fairly safe to run straight northwest to the outpost but there is a huge pit in the middle of the zone that you must avoid.
Getting on the boat at the outpost is a little tricky. There are skeleton guards on the dock that will kill you unless you have IVU. Iksar are KOS in the outpost so you must jump into the water and swim around the wall to the end of the dock (but not so close that the skeletons see you). You can tread water until the boat arrives (which could take up to about 30 minutes) or wait on the far shore. The hill beyond the ships on the shore is safe, but don't get too close to the ships because one of them has a skeleton guard. If you are waiting on shore you must be vigilant because you will have little spare time to swim and get on your boat when it arrives. To get onto the boat from the water you approach from the rear where there are a couple of barrels slanting down into the water and go up the little ramp that the barrel makes.
At the island transfer point in the Timorous Deep you will need to go northwest from the dock to a beach where the shuttle barge arrives every 10 minutes. Don't get too close to the ogres.
When you have arrived at the Oasis of Marr it is a fairly safe run north along the beach to North Ro and then to the tunnel which goes to EC. (But watch out for sand giants!)
P.S. When the boat zones from The Overthere to the Timorous Deep you will likely end up embedded in the structure of the ship. Don't panic and stay still. Wait a few seconds for things to settle down before you try to move. Once when I moved too soon I ended up in the water and had a long swim to the island.

Re: Travel question
PITA but I have done it. Very good description. Try to have LOC on a hot button so if you die in the water, I have, your body is easier to find. Of course necrosi have locate corpse.
Karma is a Bitch...thanks Ten
Re: Travel question
I have a hot button linked to my left turn key. So every time I turn left, i automatically do a Sense Heading and a /loc.
My foragers also do a Forage.
